Just remember some tips while using your device and monitoring it will become a lot easier. Wait in an open area till GPS receiver is able to locate signals. This usually takes some time. When you pass through some areas where signals are obstructed or when you pass through some tunnel, the device may take some extra time before calculating your initial location. For finding out the sensitivity of your system to GPS signal obstruction, you can check the satellite status screen. Next you should enter waypoints for planning your journey in a better way. The waypoints can be any major or minor spot on your route. You should set waypoints which are familiar to you, this way you will stay oriented while driving. You can choose the option of 'custom avoid' to skip some areas. This way your GPS won't calculate routes which you want to skip. Don't let your GPS device dictate routes to you. Always take the route which you know is the right one. GPS systems with dead reckoning capacities are useful for getting signals from satellites when they are blocked due to freestanding buildings built close together. For accuracy you should check your speedometer and GPS. If they don't match, always trust GPS. When you park your car at your home, wait for sometime in driveway. Your navigation system takes some time to locate the satellite. However waiting won't be useful in case you parked your vehicle in a public garage. You will have to do without the GPS signal for few minutes. Always ask for directions when you are driving in a part of town which is not familiar to you. For getting the directions, drive to your nearest crossing. Once you arrive, enter waypoints for future use. Office parks and the latest subdivisions are frequently missed on GPS maps so it's very important to ask directions. Don't forget to protect your GPS device. Put it under a cap or cloth so that it is kept away from thieves. And lastly and most importantly, always pay more attention to your driving than your GPS device. These devices are fun to use but if you neglect your driving for them, you are definitely in trouble. |
